Pasadena's Wrigley Mansion has a rich history beyond a legacy with the Tournament of Roses

PASADENA, Calif. -- Known as the Tournament House, the Italian Renaissance-style mansion on Orange Grove Boulevard in Pasadena was donated by the Wrigley family in 1958 with the understanding that it would become the permanent headquarters for the Tournament of Roses, the organization that orchestrates the world-famous Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game. Surrounding the Tournament House are the Wrigley Gardens, which are open to the public and feature floral displays that span four and a half acres and more than 1,500 varieties of roses, camellias, and annuals.

"The property is a city park," said Amy Wainscott, President of the 2023 Tournament of Roses. "So people are welcome to come to take photos and walk through the gardens."

The Tournament House also provides free public tours from April to August, which offer guests the opportunity to enter the lavish home and see how the Wrigley family lived, learn about chewing gum magnate William Wrigley, Jr's legacy and the history of the Tournament of Roses.

"Each of the Wrigley's homes had one room, and in our case it's the solarium, that the walls were covered with foil," said Wainscott. "It was to remind the Wrigleys of their beginnings. So it's an homage to the Wrigley Gum Company."
