2023 Heart Run and Walk set for Saturday at Alaska Airlines Center

The 2023 Alaska Heart Run & Walk is scheduled for Saturday at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The event, sponsored by the American Heart Association, is a major fundraiser with a goal of raising $400,000 this year. It’s also a place for heart disease and stroke survivors to gather with family, friends and volunteers to unite for the common goals of celebration and education. Over 3,000 people have regularly participated in the event.

This year’s theme is “I Run and Walk to Save Lives.” The funds raised go to a variety of sources, including research, CPR training and more.

The opening ceremonies are set to start at 9 a.m. followed by the timed 5K runners starting at 9:30 a.m. The untimed participants start at 9:45 a.m. and the awards ceremony is 10:45 a.m.

There is a bib pick-up event Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. in the atrium at Sadler’s, at 3901 Old Seward Hwy.

Paid registrants receive a participation bib and a commemorative finisher medal. Walkers can register for free for the 3K or 5K distance. On-site event registration will be available starting at 7:30 a.m. on race day.

Registration for adult chip-timed 5K runners is $35 and $30 for youth ages 8-17. Kids 7 and under can run for free.
