FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -

On Dec. 6, the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) put out an emergency alert regarding an incident of assault using drugs.

According to the Office of Rights, Compliance and Accountability, two students, one male and one female, were victims of a suspected roofie incident on December 2.

Roofie refers to an intoxicating substance meant to sedate the consumer. Usually this is done using a benzodiazepine substance which falls under class three scheduled substances.

This incident is under investigation by the Alaska State Troopers.

UAF has put out a set of tips to help deal with similar situations.

They include:

  • Removing yourself from a situation or getting help when you feel concerned about a possible threat.
  • Being alert and aware of your surroundings.
  • Keeping safety in mind, which can include going out in groups.
