ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - In talking with the athletes of the University of Alaska Anchorage this season, a common theme has been present on road trips.

One is that the players are happy to travel and play some great competition.

The other is the excitement to leave the snow-white streets of Anchorage in exchange for a few days of sunlight down south.

Now, the Seawolves men’s basketball team gets to do just that under the California sun.

After a 22-10 season — one in which the Seawolves upset a then-ranked #1 Saint Martin’s and made it as far as the GNAC Championship — UAA has earned a spot in the Division II Tournament Bracket as the West Region’s seventh seed.

The news was announced Sunday night as the NCAA released its schedule.

It’s the 17th tournament appearance for the Seawolves in program history and the team’s first in over 10 years. UAA last played a tournament game in 2012, where they made it to the second round before being ousted by Seattle Pacific.

Following the selection, UAA will now face its first foe of the bracket on March 15 in a rematch with Cal State San Bernardino. The #2-seeded Coyotes defeated the Seawolves 70-64 back on Dec. 18, 2023.
