Anchorage Wolverines standout Aiden Westin commits to UAA hockey

Anchorage Wolverines standout Aiden Westin won’t have to go far to continue his hockey career. Westin committed to play for the University of Alaska Anchorage hockey program on Wednesday.

Westin, an Anchorage native, will start with the Seawolves in the 2023-24 season.

“Nothing beats the opportunity to play at home in front of family friends and fans,” he said in a statement released by the team. “Playing in my hometown the past two seasons has been the best experience of my life and I’d like to continue to do so in the next stage of my career.”

Westin helped the Wolverines to the Robertson Cup finals last season, the team’s first in the North American Hockey League. This season, the forward was voted assistant captain and has 19 goals and 21 assists in 33 games.

“The Seawolves are very excited for Aiden to be joining our program next year,” UAA head coach Matt Shasby said in a statement. “He is a local kid with great talent and character who has thrived playing for the Wolverines and wants to continue his education and playing career at home.”

Wolverines General Manager Keith Morris was happy to see the connection continue between a local player and the two Anchorage hockey programs.

“We are honored to have Aiden Westin committing to UAA,” said Wolverines General Manager Keith Morris. “As a former player, captain and assistant coach of the team, I am excited to see a true Anchorage born and bred player come up from Learn to Skate, U8 Hockey, the Wolverines and now the Seawolves.”

UAA, an NCAA Division I independent, is 4-14-0 overall this season. Westin was previously committed to the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
