Her message: The University of Alaska remains strong thanks to continued support from the state and from businesses. More so, she said, the university system remains pivotal to training the state’s future workforce.
“UA empowers Alaska and our progress, our people and programs are key to Alaska’s workforce pipeline,” Pitney said.
Each of three universities and the system’s 13 community campuses serves it owns unique spots, she said.
University of Alaska Fairbanks serves as the state’s research hub and a “global leader in Arctic research.”
University of Alaska Anchorage serves as the state’s higher education comprehensive institute, especially with regard to training healthcare professionals. University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau fills the experiential educational gap with a growing emphasis in ocean science and mariculture and maritime careers.
“Every campus is critical to its home community, supporting the local economy and workforce needs,” Pitney said. “Together, our universities provide the vast majority of Alaska’s postsecondary education and our education programs range from short-term workforce development to Ph.D. programs recognized as best in class globally.”
