Research on recent volcanic activity continues at Mt. Edgecumbe

Continued research from UAF is building the story of Mt. Edgecumbe. The latest group of researchers funded by a grant from NASA, visited the site from June 2 to June 12. The team consisted of UAF faculty and students as well as international scientists.


Plenty of work remains for other scientists. More scientists will continue to collect data from Mt. Edgecumbe and the AVO will be working to increase monitoring of the volcano.

Cordova Electric Cooperative celebrates completion of new energy project

This past weekend the Cordova Electric Cooperative (CEC) celebrated the completion of a project six years in the making that aims to enhance resilience methods for distribution grids.


Leaders in the energy world traveled to Cordova to attend several days of networking and work sessions related to the Resilient Alaskan Distribution System Improvements using Automation, Network Analysis, Control and Energy Storage (RADIANCE) project.


Staff from both Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Sen. Dan Sullivan’s offices were present to share words of support for the project.


Key partners in the RADIANCE project included the Alaska Center for Energy and Power at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and the Department of Energy.
